A new president for HLAA-NYS
- Category: News
Newly elected president, JoAnne Spoto Decker, introduced the first in a new series of public informational sessions, sponsored by the Board of Directors of HLAA-NYS, in conjunction with chapters around the state.
Last year, the Board voted to take our meetings on the road and combine them with a presentation and forum, open to all residents of the state of NY with an interest in hearing loss. Hosted by the Albany chapter, this first session was such a success that in the summer we will take our “traveling show” to the northern part of the state, and in the fall to the southern part of the state.
The theme was “Advocacy in Education: Resources for Parents of Children with Hearing Loss”. Speakers included an audiologist, an attorney specializing in legal services for people with disabilities, parents of children with hearing loss, an educator specializing in deaf and hard of hearing students, and an outreach specialist for an national organization that facilitates services for students with hearing loss.
